Meet A Mom – Dr. Mita Parikh, DMD | Huntington & Smithtown Moms

Meet Dr. Mita Parikh, DMD, local mom, and #momboss from Hidden Smiles Orthodontics.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I am a native Long Islander, born in NYC and raised on Long Island attending Herricks High school in New Hyde Park.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have two beautiful daughters, Arya age 6, and Leena age 4.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I am a natural athlete and am especially good at volleyball.

What is your favorite thing about living here?

I love that living and working in the Huntington area we are a quick car ride away from the amazing New York City, beaches on both sides of our shores, and vineyards out east. Long Island is very unique in being able to provide such a variety of options and is a great place to raise a family.

What do you love to do with your family around town?

Pandemic aside. We love checking out new places to eat as a family, going to the local beaches and local parks to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and hanging out by the pool on lazy hot summer days.

Tell us about Hidden Smiles Orthodontics and how it came to be, what you love about it, what makes it unique, what your goal is, etc…

Hidden Smiles Orthodontics is a labor of love, it took many years of hard work and meeting great people to get it to be what it is today. We are so proud to help our local community members find the smile they have always dreamed of in a welcoming and nurturing environment with their oral health is our top priority. We strive to be the best part of our patient’s day by truly caring about them and the events going on in their lives. We offer the latest and most advanced cosmetic braces options for our patients, options that are not offered in most orthodontic offices. Aside from Invisalign and traditional braces, unique to our office are hidden braces. Hidden braces are found on the back of your teeth so no one knows they are there and they work in some situations faster than Invisalign or traditional braces.

I am a forever student always yearning to learn about the new things that are happening in the orthodontic industry. I love taking that knowledge and being the funnel to bring what I see would be most beneficial and safe to my patients and their families.  This continued learning allows me to provide the latest and most advanced quality of care to my patients. I am a strong believer in prevention rather than reaction as I bring confidence and a sense of self into the community as we discover their hidden smile.

What is some advice you can give to moms who have to start the journey of bringing their children to the orthodontist?

As a mom myself, I see every day what a beautiful and straight smile does to a growing person’s confidence. To be the vehicle to guide a sense of confidence and self-love that we want for our children during a time of lots of uncertainty and self-doubt is something any mom would want to provide for their child. The evolution of their confidence coincides with the improvement of their smile and it is life-altering. At Hidden Smiles Orthodontics, we invite patients to start their smile journey with us as early as age 7 if it is necessary for them.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children should have their first visit to the orthodontist around the age of 7 by then the front permanent teeth start to come in.  This is usually when we can detect if there are any subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while baby teeth are still falling out. Early detection may prevent more serious problems from developing and allow us to guide the growth of the teeth and jaws in a more favorable way which is difficult to do once the child has finished growing.

As a lover of learning, I believe knowledge is power, and knowing that your child’s teeth and jaws are doing what they are supposed to do is something your dentist alone may not be able to provide and that’s where an orthodontist can help. You don’t have to wait for your dentist to say it’s time to come visit us as our consultations are free. I am proud to say I err on being conservative with treatment and only begin treatment if the patient shows signs of need for intervention.

Anything else you’d like to add about “mom life”?

Mom life is busy, hard, beautiful, joyful and it’s so many other things bunched up into one concept. We live in a fast-paced world and at Hidden Smiles Orthodontics we want to make things as simple and efficient for you, the mom as possible, we provide treatment options that require fewer visits to our office, virtual consultations, and virtual exam options to allow you to save time for all the other things you have to juggle in your life for you and your child. We want your time with us to be as positively memorable and seamless as we can make it. Please call us to begin your smile journey so you can find out how amazing your/your child’s smile can look. We want to help you discover your hidden smile and bring out your best self!
